Course Overview

Maintaining a positive mindset in busy, high-pressure and rapidly changing environments can be a constant and significant challenge. This can place individuals and teams in difficult situations that can cause excess stress, impact morale, and diminish resilience.

While we cannot necessarily change or remove the external factors causing these negative impacts on ourselves and the team, we can improve how we react to situations, how we deal with them and how they affect us.

The course focuses on developing greater awareness and skills to support ourselves and others, cope with stress and build resilience.

Throughout the course, delegates will also learn about the Red Cross’s CALMER framework and how to apply it in various situations.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand what causes and triggers stress, how it affects us and how we can help ourselves to improve our own and the teams resilience.
  • Learn about the CALMER framework (Consider, Acknowledge, Listen, Manage, Enable and Resource) and how to use it to support ourselves and others.
  • Learn how to cope with difficult situations, challenging behaviours, your own and others’ reactions and sometimes the powerful emotions these can evoke.
  • Understand what a resilient person and team are and how to use CALMER to build resilience.

Intended Audience

All staff regardless of level and position.

Course Duration

1 half-day.

Course Requirements

A desktop computer or laptop with the following:

  • Web camera
  • Speakers
  • Microphone

Mobile phones and Tablets are not permitted as they do not provide the same functionality enabling participants to interact with the course effectively.

As this is an interactive course, if you do not have a device with a web camera, speakers and microphone, you will not be allowed to attend.

Please download the Zoom app rather than joining the call via a web browser as the app provides more functionality and a far more stable connection. You may need to speak to your IT department to assist and allow for the app to be installed.

Furthermore, it is crucial participants attending the course are in a private space free from interruptions and cannot be overheard so they can interact with the facilitators and other candidates. Multiple delegates are not allowed to join from a single computer.

In order to maintain the quality of the learning experience for everyone, delegates who are unable to meet these essential requirements will not be admitted to the assessment.
