Course Overview

The programme has been designed to help managers improve their practice and interpersonal skills enabling them to optimise team performance and cohesion to develop effective and efficient teams.

Split over 3 sessions, the programme focuses on a range of management and leadership concepts, including distinguishing the difference between them and their appropriate application.

Candidates will learn how to effectively manage themselves, their team, conflicting priorities and demands.

They will further develop their coaching, motivation, and influencing skills in a way that positively challenges, supports, and empowers the team, while also learning how to practically manage difficult conversations and discuss challenging issues.

Day 1 – Learning to Manage and Lead

The programme will begin by focussing on concepts of management and leadership and discussing the differences between the two. We will explore managing yourself and your time, including using different techniques to prioritise tasks. We’ll finally focus on managing the service, including its quality, the performance of your team and applying the different management and leadership styles with individuals.

Day 2 – Understanding Self and Others

The second day will develop your self-awareness as a manager, understanding individual personality traits and how you prefer to communicate with others. By applying similar principles, you will think about your teams and how they function, develop skills in influencing and motivating others and will look at coaching as an activity to develop, challenge, support and empower your team members.

Day 3 – Effective Communication with Colleagues and Raising Challenging Issues

The final day will focus on the interpersonal and communication skills required for effective management and leadership. We will discuss challenges that exist in the workplace with peers, direct reports and senior managers.
